Class Descriptions

Adult Classes

Adult Classes are 8 weeks for $265 and include one 25-pound bag of new clay and 2 hours of optional open studio time per week. 

Beginner Wheel: This class is for students with little or no clay experience who are interested in learning basic skills at the potter’s wheel for creating functional work. Demonstrations will cover wedging, centering, and forming shapes such as mugs, bowls and plates. You will also learn basic glazing and decorating techniques. Limited to 9 people.

Advanced Beginner Wheel: For students who have taken a minimum of 2 beginner classes and feel comfortable working on the potter's wheel and now want to strengthen their basic skills. This class will focus on more complex throwing techniques and more advanced glazing and decorating ideas. Limited to 9 people.

Beginner Hand-building: Students will learn how to make functional and sculptural ceramic art without the wheel. Projects include cups, bowls, platters and much more. Learn basic construction techniques such as coils, slabs, and using molds. Limited to 15 people.

Queer Class: This beginner class offers a safe environment for adults 18 and over for the LGBTQIA+ community. Demonstrations will cover wedging, centering, and forming shapes such as mugs, bowls and plates. You will also learn basic glazing and decorating techniques. Limited to 9 people.

Surface Design Class: We will cover techniques such as brush work, underglaze, oxide and slip application, as well as sgraffito, Mishima, water-etching, paper, tape and wax resist techniques. The minimum requirement is at least one pottery class. Limited to 15 people.

Teens and Kids Classes

Teens Class: This all-levels class is geared towards teens aged 12-17. Demonstrations will cover wedging, centering, and forming shapes such as mugs, bowls and plates. Teens will also learn basic glazing and decorating techniques. Teen classes do not include practice time.

Kids Class: These all-levels classes for kids ages 8-11 will offer fun, planned out projects with lots of room for creativity and individual ideas. We will explore and develop skills in wheel-throwing, hand-building, surface decoration, and glazing. Kids classes do not include practice time.
